Notes & Combos

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I love playing older decks (aka TOSS because anything older than that is for nerds).

One of my favorite decks is Prank-Kids and i've been giving it a good try to modernize the deck without losing the essence of it.

Adventure is way outdated and powercrept, and while it plays fantastically with the deck I wanted to move away from that engine, especially in this META.

Next, I though of the Nemeses line, where I played the "Banish 1 [attrbute] to special summon this monster from hand" type monsters as a rank 4 engine, then going into Infernal Flame Banshee to get me into either Colossus using Corridor, or Protos. This was inconsitent and still not as good as the decks of the time.

Finally, I caved. I sold my soul for the consistency of two one card combo engines. Giving me options to the one thing this deck lacks... Negates and Nib proofing. With the Fiendsmith portion of the deck, I decided to go as lightlty as I could in the extra deck to keep my options varied, High Wave King Caesar is completely busted, and necroquip makes Closed Heaven, Lurrie and Tract all a 1 card combo.

Secondly, I added the Millennium cards for the strength of destruction protection via Dingirsu, and non-targeting removal, and Photon Lord for a Nib counter under 5 summons.

I found that not only is the deck good with these engines, but honestly a very good rouge strategy that I believe people are sleeping on. Of course, like any deck in the modern age, going second is worse than using high grit sandpaper to wipe after authentic Mexican cuisine, but because of the relatively small actual deck size you can put every handtrap in existence into your deck and still manage under 45 cards.

I found that against top teir decks, the double raigeki or Double harpies + raigeki or harpies + a negate is usually enough to beat them. But the toughest match-ups were easily Blue-eyes, Centurion, and Memento. My handtrap choices somewhat reflect that, as both Blue-eyes and Centurion lose to Ogre while Memento loses to Belle.
