Notes & Combos

TL: DR preview: I LOVE EVENLY MATCHED, individual card reviews come after the prelude.

In a stage where endless engine decks spit out puffs that pass as music (must be beatboxing), undeterred by the tomatoes thrown at them, the better way to prevail over them for the Melodious ladies is to take the stage by brute force.

Or in non-needlessly poetic words, Melodious with more breakers and less HTs. I dunno whether the build's that effective or not (because luck was a huge factor in my climb) but it was really interesting to use, especially in this wilder meta. I'll now rate each card choice that differs from the norm, explaining their intended use and results, except for the first review:

HTs I kept: Maxx C, Ash, Herald.

Intended use: Maxx C, and Maxx C counters

Result: Since Melodious doesn't work well with most established breakers and said breakers can't really do anything against bugs and jellyfish creatures, I kept almost all answers to Maxx C. They're all as good as ever, Herald even more so.

Lightning Storm

Intended use: stun decks, interaction bait for BE and Fiendsmith with Desirae

Result: Hit or miss. Several times I got it going 1st or as the Concerto draw, and few times it put work. But when it put work, it did so brilliantly.

Triple Tactics Talent

Intended use: General HT punish and interaction bait, emergency draw tool, hard Millennium Stun counter.

Result: TTT might be the most hit or miss card of all time, save from luck reliant ones. Works wonders against Exodia, and well enough against BE or PUNK Fiendsmith

Forbidden Droplet

Intended use: Breaker tool that has uses going 1st as well, one of my personal favorites.

Result: Rampant rise in Kash and macro strategies can make the card unplayable at times because of how it works.

Evenly Matched

Intended use: What it says on the tin.

Result: ADORED IT. A constant lifesaver that breaks boards apart, especially in new MD, filled with newbies who haven't read a single Evenly Matched in their life, either not preparing their board against it, or worse, removing it in response, though that was rare (as it should be). Not HOPT so multiples of it get past a negate. Absolute highlight of my climb, I adore this card.
